CHENNAI: Foxconn has started the manufacture of iPhone 15 in its factory in Sriperumbudur. The idea is to boost the number of new iPhones coming from India and make things more efficient to increase the volume of phones available at launch.

Apple, which is based in the US, has been working on a project for a while now to spread out its manufacturing beyond China. They want to lessen the risk of supply chain issues for their some of their most important products, especially with all the trade uncertainties between the US and China.

Before the manufacture of iPhone 14, Apple only did a tiny bit of iPhone assembly in India, which lagged behind China’s output. They managed to shrink that time gap a lot last year, and by the end of March, about 7 per cent of iPhones were made in India.
