NEW DELHI: The London-based Hinduja family is the world’s wealthiest non-resident Indian (NRI) with a fortune of Rs 1,76,500 crores, according to the 360 ONE Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2023.
Earlier, they occupied the top position among wealthiest NRIs in the Forbes India Rich List 2023.
Hurun India and 360 ONE Wealth released the list on October 10 where wealth calculations are a snapshot as of August 30, 2023.
In this, Lakshmi Mittal and family, also living in London, followed at the second spot with a wealth of Rs 1,62,300 crores, with Vinod Shantilal Adani and family from Dubai at third, with fortune worth Rs 1,07,300 crores.
The US has emerged as the most favoured destination, with 47 millionaires choosing it as their place of residence. The US is followed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Kingdom (UK). Many of these individuals have made significant contributions to the adopted country and their respective communities.
Notably, 84 per cent of the NRIs are self-made, which highlights their entrepreneurial spirit and success.
Incidentally, UAE has become the second-largest residence for wealthy NRIs globally, with up to 20 Indian-origin businessmen residing in the country.
In the overall 360 ONE Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2023, the Hinduja family moved up two positions to the fifth rank. While Mukesh Ambani and family occupied the pole position, with a wealth of nearly Rs 8,08,700 crores, Gautam Adani and family followed with Rs. 4,74,800 crores.
