NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met newly appointed UK Foreign Secretary David Cameronin London on November 13. The two held a detailed discussion on realising the full potential of the bilateral strategic partnership.
Jaishankar met the former British PM on his first day as the Foreign Secretary after he was given the post in a dramatic cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The External Affairs Minister also added that he exchanged views on the situation in West Asia, the Ukraine conflict and the Indo-Pacific with Cameron.
Cameron served as the UK Prime Minister from 2010 to 2016 and Leader of the Conservative Party from 2005 to 2016. He resigned in 2016 after British voters rejected his referendum for the UK to remain in the European Union.
Meanwhile, the reshuffle in the UK cabinet came on a day when outgoing James Cleverly was scheduled for bilateral talks with Jaishankar, who is in Britain for a five-day official visit. It was speculated that preparations for UK PM Rishi Sunak’s possible visit to India in the next few months will be on the agenda in the meeting.
