INDIA and Bangladesh on June 22 shared a vision for the future to enhance connectivity, commerce, and collaboration for the prosperity of both nations. The vision document highlights India’s Viksit Bharat Vision 2047 and Bangladesh’s Smart Bangladesh Vision 2041. These documents were exchanged between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina in New Delhi.
Following significant talks between them, bilateral relationships were solidified with the signing of 10 memoranda of understanding (MoUs). The key meeting saw the renewal of three previous agreements alongside the signing of seven new MoUs aimed at enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
The key highlights of the MoUs include agreements in the fields of Blue Economy and Maritime Cooperation in the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean Region, joint research on oceanography between Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute and India’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, and collaborations in digital and green partnerships for sustainable development.
Additionally, agreements were reached on enhancing rail connectivity, initiating joint projects in space technology, and fostering military education cooperation. Other MoUs that were renewed were made in fisheries, disaster management, and health sectors.
PM Modi said in the last one year, India and Bangladesh completed many important public welfare projects together. He further said Bangladesh was India’s biggest development partner, and the country gave utmost priority to the relations with Bangladesh. “I reiterate India’s commitment to realising Bangabandhu’s vision of stable, prosperous and progressive Bangladesh. Bangladesh will be a developing country in 2026. I laud Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ji for leading ‘Sonar Bangla’.”
Sheikh Hasina also met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Murmu, while welcoming Sheikh Hasina, said that the shared history, language and culture of India and Bangladesh connect the two countries with each other.
