NEW DELHI: India has resumed visa services in Canada for certain categories after they were indefinitely suspended on September 21.
The High Commission of India in Ottawa said in a release that it would begin accepting applications for visas for entry, business, medical, and conference purposes from October 26.
“The decision has been taken after a considered review of the security situation that took into account some recent Canadian measures in this regard,” an embassy release said.
It further said, “the High Commission of India in Ottawa and its Consulates General in Toronto and Vancouver were constrained to suspend visas temporarily because of safety and security considerations.”
Relations between India and Canada had reached historic lows after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada was investigating “credible allegations” of India’s involvement in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh separatist leader in June.
Officials said that applications from Canadians in these categories would be accepted at Indian missions in other countries as well, which had also been suspended in the decision of September 21.
