Endorsement and applause

When his Italian counterpart called Prime Minister Narendra Modi the “most loved leader around the world”, it didn’t come as much of a surprise to most of us in India, and abroad. Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni’s remarks, besides being a reaffirmation of PM Modi’s global standing, are a follow-up of a global leader approval-tracker’s recent findings.

As per our Cover Story, US tracker Morning Consult has named PM Modi as the world’s most popular leader for the second time in a row. Our report also cites Microsoft founder Bill Gates’ recent assessment of the PM to build an argument that Modi today has become something like a cult figure, and gives reasons as to why the world believes in, and is inspired, by the Modi Story.

Another key G20 event, the Foreign Ministers Meeting, took place early this week and we extend our coverage beyond the G20 Podium. The main report on the centerspread informs that Russia’s war on Ukraine dominated the talks among the ministers and angry exchanges marked the proceedings. In the end, the differences could not be reconciled, says our report, quoting the Indian EAM as having said, “We tried, but the gap between the countries was too much.” The other report is about PM Modi’s reminder to the Foreign Ministers that G20 has a critical role to play in finding the right balance between growth and efficiency on the one hand, and resilience on the other.

The PM, says our report, also stressed that the architecture of global governance, created after the Second World War has failed to serve its mandate. We also highlight select pictures of the all-important meeting.

The noose for fugitive economic offenders seems to be tightening with G20 nations’ call for strengthening law enforcement cooperation for action against corruption and related crimes.

The deliberations of the first meeting of the Anti-corruption Working Group comprise the main story on G20 Podium.

An accompanying report deals with the Haryana Government’s efforts to provide some extra dose of fun and entertainment to the delegates attending the significant meeting in the state. At the plenary session of the second meeting of the Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion, the members discussed and agreed on the way forward for important deliverables, including those on Digital Financial Inclusion and SME Finance. That’s our other report on the Podium. Besides, we carry a report on B20 conference, ‘India Initiatives in the North-East’, hosted by Mizoram, along with regular reproduction of select tweets.

The New India special feature takes stock of the multiple steps initiated by the Government in an effort to provide a boost to the agriculture sector, the pulse of the India economy. Citing facts and figures, our report shows how these measures have contributed to a phenomenal growth in crop yield, besides improving the plight of the farmers across the country.

An analytical piece on the 3/3 performance of the BJP in the just-concluded Assembly elections in three northeast states is our top story for the Rising India page. A supporting story on the page focuses on the most dramatic alignment of political power equations in NE states.

We have all this, and much more to offer. Enjoy the package!
