State Govt orders yet another probe against father-son duo

Fresh trouble for Thackerays

MUMBAI: There is no end to troubles for the father-son duo of Uddhav and Aditya Thackeray; they seem to be rather increasing by the day.

The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv SenaBJP alliance Government recently ordered an inquiry by the State Intelligence Department (SID) into charges that the former Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) President Uddhav Thackeray interfered in the investigations into the murder of Amravati-based pharmacist Umesh Kolhe.

This is the third inquiry ordered against the Thackerays. Earlier the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police had started a preliminary enquiry against Uddhav and his family for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets, based on a complaint by city resident Gouri Bhide.

The state Government also set up an SIT to probe the death of Disha Saliyan, former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The move came amid demands to probe one ‘AU’, who had called Salian. In fact, Rahul Shewale, BJP MP from Maharashtra, said in the Lok Sabha that AU was none other than Aditya Thackeray.

Announcing the latest SID inquiry, Excise Minister Shambhuraj Desai said in the state Assembly that Uddhav pressured the Amravati Police to investigate the killing of local chemist Umesh Kolhe from robbery angle. After BJP-affiliated Independent MLA Ravi Rana raised the issue in the Assembly, Desai said that the SID would investigate it.

The announcement came a day after Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis ordered a probe by the Special Investigation Team into the Disha Salian death case in which the name of Thackeray’s son Aaditya, a former minister, has been linked by the ruling BJP. It may be recalled that MLA Rana and his MP wife Navneet Kaur had approached Union Home Minister Amit Shah for investigation into the Kolhe murder case, after which the Centre had handed over the case to NIA.
