NEW DELHI: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sprung a surprise Cabinet reshuffle on Novcmber 13 morning, starting by sacking Indian-origin Home Secretary Suella Braverman and bringing former Prime Minister David Cameron back into the government as his new Foreign Secretary.
“It has been the greatest privilege of my life to serve as Home Secretary. I will have more to say in due course,” Braverman, 43, said in a brief statement, as it was announced that James Cleverly will be replacing her in the Cabinet, making way for Cameron, 54, as the new Foreign Secretary.
“The King has been pleased to approve the following government appointments: Rt Hon James Cleverly MP as Secretary of State for the Home Department; Rt Hon David Cameron as Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs,” a Downing Street statement said.
Earlier, Braverman had created a big stir when she alleged that right-wing and nationalist protesters who engage in aggression are met with a “stern response” while “pro-Palestinian mobs” are “largely ignored”.
