NEW DELHI: With a view to boosting renewable energy, the Power Ministry has notified the procedure for the implementation of a uniform renewable energy tariff.
To be computed on a monthly basis, the tariff is said to enable the creation of a single rate for distribution companies (discoms) and the removal of barriers that caused delays in signing power purchase agreements. It will be levied on each category of central pools—solar, wind, hydro, and others—based on different technologies.
The Government has also kept future technologies in mind and created central pools for solar-wind hybrid, round-the-clock solar-wind hybrid with storage, and peaking power solar-wind hybrid with storage.
The procedure to implement this uniform tariff has been introduced by the Grid Controller of India for the central pool of projects connected to the Interstate Transmission Systems (ISTS). This will facilitate the intermediary companies to use of these pools to purchase power for distribution and retail supply to multiple states at a standardised and uniform tariff.
While the notification has been issued, the commencement date for each category of pool will be announced by the Union Government. Once announced, all of them will have a validity of five years from the day of commencement.
