NEW DELHI: Ayurveda is a beacon of hope in a world grappling with complex health challenges, and it is much beyond treating ailments; it encompasses a comprehensive approach to wellness and wellbeing, said Vice- President Jagdeep Dhankhar in his statement at the inauguration of the 5th Global Ayurveda Festival (GAF) in Thiruvananthapuram recently.
Ancient texts like the Atharva Veda, Charaka Samhita, and Sushruta Samhita provide a profound understanding of the human body, its ailments, and the therapeutic principles of Ayurveda, he emphasised. He said this form a treasure trove which has been with us for thousands of years and “is satisfying to note that its relevance is now being rediscovered”.
The International Ayurveda Seminar, the central component of GAF, was held December 1-5, as was the National Arogya Fair 2023. The fair, a platform to celebrate India’s healing wisdom was organised at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Vice- President referred to Kerala as the ‘cradle of Ayurvedic excellence’ and noted that GAF has served as a beacon of Ayurveda’s enduring legacy since 2012.
Recalling that the COVID pandemic led to the rediscovery of Ayurveda, Dhankhar stated that all over the country there were people who had knowledge about Ayurveda’s efficacy in battling the disease and did “yeoman service to humanity”.
Acknowledging the steps taken by the Centre and the States Governments for the promotion of Ayurveda, he appreciated the establishment of a dedicated AYUSH Ministry, the observance of National Ayurveda Day, and the integration of Ayurveda into the National Education Policy as testaments to the Government’s commitment to Ayurveda’s advancement and its integration into the mainstream healthcare.
