KOLLAM: Stray dogs in Kerala will now have a high-tech abode with all latest facilities, including a temperature- controlled operation theatre.
Called the Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre, it is being set up to reduce stray dog population density, decrease mating/ maternal/pack aggression in stray dogs.
Spread across 106 acres of land, the centre has been designed to house approximately 1,000 stray dogs at a time. The centre was designed after receiving complaints from citizen bodies regarding stray dog menace in the Kollam district of Kerala.
The shelter home in the scenic locality of Kuriottumala is nearing completion and will commence operations soon. It is constructed through collaborative efforts of the Kollam district panchayat and animal husbandry department of the state.
The ABC centre has a shelter home for abandoned dogs where proper treatment and food will be provided by the government. All necessary facilities, including an AC operation theatre, will be incorporated into this upcoming ABC centre. The new-age animal care centre is also being appreciated by several animal welfare groups for its design and provisions.
