MUMBAI: The Election Commission has announced an extension of the voter registration process in Mumbai, allowing eligible citizens to enrol until April 23. The move comes after the publication of the ‘final voters list’ in January, to encourage higher participation in the voting process.
The voting for the Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra will be held in five phases starting from April 19 (first phase) to May 20 (fifth phase). The polling in Mumbai will be held in the fifth phase on May 20.
The Government has initiated drives in Mumbai’s colleges to increase voter turnout among young adults aged 18-19. The district administration is working to raise the number of voters in this age group to 25,000 by the day of the election.
If a voter discovers his/her name written in a regional language other than the local language upon registration, they are advised to contact the EC’s helpline to rectify the issue.
The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) responsible for the specific constituency will handle the necessary corrections. With 48 parliamentary seats at stake, Maharashtra holds the distinction of having the second-highest number of Lok Sabha seats, following Uttar Pradesh with 80 seats.
