APPLE is all set to bring access to ChatGPT for its users along with a number of other new features. Seeking to catch up in the AI race, Apple announced the makeover of Siri, its voice assistant, according to a BBC report. Apple would integrate ChatGPT technology into responses from a new version of its voice assistant Siri. The initiative is part of a new personalised AI system – called “Apple Intelligence” – that aims to offer users a way to navigate Apple devices more easily.
Updates to its iPhone and Mac operating systems will allow access to ChatGPT through a partnership with developer OpenAI.
ChatGPT can also be used to boost other tools, including text and content generation. Apple Intelligence also has the ability to summarize notifications, emails and texts. A group chat that involves figuring out trip planning could be shortened to a single message that conveys who booked a hotel and when to arrive, according to the demo.
A new image generation tool allows users to create unique emoji reactions, while the new Image Playground feature can create more complex visuals in several different styles.
The test version will become available in the autumn.
New Heights
Tim Cook, Apple chief executive, said the move would bring his company’s products “to new heights” as he opened the Worldwide Developers Conference at the tech giant’s headquarters in Cupertino, California.
Apple’s new artificial intelligence system involves a range of generative AI tools aimed at creating an automated, personalized experience on its devices. The demonstration showed the company’s AI would be integrated throughout the operating systems on its Mac laptops, iPad tablets and iPhones, as well as be able to pull information from and take action within apps.
The new tools mark a major shift toward AI for the company, which has witnessed slowing global sales over the past year and integrated fewer AI features into its consumer-facing products than competitors.
