PM Modi meeting Biden

PRIME Minister Narendra Modi met US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy, on June 14 and said India and the US will keep “working together to further global good.” The Modi-Biden conversation came nearly seven months after Washington’s allegations of an Indian link to a foiled plot to murder Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York.

“It’s always a pleasure to meet @ POTUS @JoeBiden. India and USA will keep working together to further global good,” the Prime Minister said. During his talks with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, PM Modi reiterated his commitment to further strengthen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the third term of the NDA Government.

The two leaders reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthen bilateral relations. They also expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the Free Trade Agreement negotiations between the two countries.

“I am fortunate that the people of India have given me the opportunity to serve them for the third consecutive time. This has happened for the first time in India in the last six decades”
Outreach Session

PM Modi also addressed the Outreach Session on Artificial Intelligence, Energy, Africa and the Mediterranean. Prime Minister expressed that it was a matter of great satisfaction for him to be attending the Summit after his reelection in the largest democratic exercise in the history of humankind.

“Last week many of you were busy with the European Parliament elections. Some friends will go through the excitement of elections in the coming time. In India too, a few months back, it was the time of elections. …The entire electoral process has been made fair and transparent by the ubiquitous use of technology and the results of such a large election were also declared within a few hours! …And I am fortunate that the people of India have given me the opportunity to serve them for the third consecutive time. This has happened for the first time in India in the last six decades,” he said.

He expressed that for technology to be successful it had to be underpinned by a human-centric approach. In this context, he shared India’s success in leveraging digital technology for public service delivery.

Talking of India’s AI Mission premised on ‘AI for All’, PM Modi emphasised that this technology should be aimed at fostering progress and well-being of all. The Prime Minister elaborated on India’s energy transition pathway noting that its approach was based on availability, accessibility, affordability and acceptability. He mentioned that India was working towards achieving the target of net zero by 2070.
