J&K to adopt Kerala's Nadakkavu Model for school modernization
Blitz Bureau

NEW DELHI: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced that it will adopt the successful ‘Nadakkavu model’ of government school modernization from Kerala. This model was introduced through the PRISM(Promoting Regional Schools to International Standards through Multiple interventions) initiative under the Faizal and Shabana Foundation, based in Kozhikode.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the foundation for the implementation of the model. The first school to adopt the model under the banner will be the Government Higher Secondary School for Girls in Kothibagh, Srinagar. The objective is to make the school a center of educational excellence that can serve as a blueprint for other schools in the Union Territory.

The Faizal and Shabana Foundation will provide funding for the project and take responsibility for its implementation, which includes the holistic development of the school. Faizal Kottikollon, the Chairman of the foundation, has stated that the model will transform education in public schools across Jammu and Kashmir. The foundation aims to create a robust educational system in the country that provides equitable education, especially for those at the bottom of the pyramid, so that each child can reach their full potential,” he added.

Speaking about the collaboration Faizal Kottikollon said, “ We are thrilled to announce a partnership between the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and the Faizal and Shabana Foundation. We have joined hands to create a robust educational system in Jammu and Kashmir specifically in Government Schools.

“The immediate objective of this initiative is to establish the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Kothibagh as a model educational institution, inspired by the Nadakkavu GVHSS school of the PRISM project. The overarching goal is to establish a Centre of Excellence that can serve as a blueprint for other schools throughout Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Meanwhile, the foundation aims to collaborate with esteemed Indian and international institutions to conduct training for the school’s teachers and students, according to the global head of the foundation, Dr. Joseph Sebastian who said that once the model is established, the Government will replicate it across others states in India as well.
