The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI) has reported a significant increase in the issuance of certificates of origin, highlighting the emirate’s growing non-oil exports, economic diversification drive, and stronger global trade presence, reported DD News.

Between June 2024 and June 2025, certificates of origin rose by 10.3 per cent year-on-year, reflecting a broader exporter base and the enhanced competitiveness of Abu Dhabi’s private sector. ADCCI stated that the surge underscores the emirate’s status as a regional powerhouse for trade and investment.

The India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, in effect since May 2022, has further boosted bilateral trade. Total trade expanded from US$72.9 billion in 2022 to over US$100 billion in FY2025, with non-oil trade reaching US$65 billion in 2024.

In the first half of 2025, Abu Dhabi’s non-oil foreign trade jumped 34.7per cent, driven by a 64 per cent surge in non-oil exports, a 35 per cent rise in re-exports, and a 15per cent increase in imports. Certificates of origin were issued across multiple sectors, led by chemicals, metals, and engineering industries. Small and medium-sized enterprises were also key contributors, supported by Chamber initiatives such as business matchmaking, specialised export training, and strategic partnerships.

Shamis Al Dhaheri, Second ViceChairman and Managing Director of ADCCI, said, “The sustained rise in certificates of origin issued by the Chamber is clear evidence of the emirate’s thriving export sector. This momentum demonstrates the global competitiveness of our companies and their ability to capitalise on new market opportunities, reinforcing Abu Dhabi as a regional hub for trade and manufacturing. It is also a testament to the trust that global markets have in the quality of products and services offered by our local businesses.”

Certificates of origin, which verify the national origin of goods, remain vital for exporters to secure customs advantages under bilateral and multilateral agreements, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of UAE products globally. ADCCI stressed that these results reflect progress toward Abu Dhabi’s vision of making non-oil trade a central pillar of sustainable growth.
