NEW DELHI: Digital India has not only made other countries follow the example but also helped Indians living in the remotest parts of the country to access benefits denied to them till now.

This was brought home to millions in India and abroad by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the latest edition of his monthly programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, aired on February 26. PM Modi showcased the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system and e-Sanjeevani app developed by India as “shining examples of the power of Digital India.”

Highlighting country’s digital strides, the PM said many countries of the world are drawn to India and spoke about the recent UPI-Pay Link, which was launched between India and Singapore.

Over 10 crore consultations have been done using the e-Sanjeevani app. The power of Digital India is visible everywhere. It has proved to be useful to people living in remote Himalayas

“Now, people of Singapore and India are transferring money from their mobile phones in the same way as they do within their respective countries,” he said. PM Modi also spoke about teleconsultation through e-Sanjeevani app, which proved a great boom for the people during the Covid-19 pandemic. “Over 10 crore consultations have been done using the e-Sanjeevani app. The power of Digital India is visible everywhere. It has proved to be useful to people living in remote Himalayas,” he said.

Craze for Indian toys

The PM started his address by speaking about the craze for Indian toys in foreign countries. “Nowadays, Indian toys have become such a craze that their demand has increased even in foreign countries.

Speaking about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, PM Modi said waste to wealth is also an important dimension of the abhiyan. He shared the example of Kamala Moharana from Kendrapada district of Odisha, who runs a self-help group. “The women of this group make many things like baskets and mobile stands f r o m milk pouches and other plastic packing materials.”

Two-way communication

Through his radio programme, the Prime Minister has developed a twoway communication process with the citizens, and built an emotional bond with his listeners.

During the latest programme, PM Modi spoke with Dr Madan Mani from Sikkim. He also spoke to Madan Mohan, a resident of Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh, who shared his experience as a patient who got the benefit of teleconsultation via e-Sanjeevani app.

In his address, PM Modi also highlighted the cleanliness exercises adopted by people in different parts of the country to say that ‘Swachh Bharat’ has become a mass movement. “If we resolve, we can make a huge contribution towards a clean India,” he said.

A powerful initiative

‘Mann ki Baat’ is a monthly address aired on All India Radio on the last Sunday of every month, through which Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacts with countrymen. It is an incredibly powerful initiative that has enabled PM Modi to create an emotional bond and win the minds and hearts of millions of people across the country.

Through this initiative, PM Modi informs, educates, inspires, shares, reminds, urges and extols on just about everything that can contribute to nation-building. For example, the Prime Minister informs the people about the various initiatives and programmes of his Government, he educates about the rationale behind those programmes, shares early achievements made, cites personal anecdotes and experiences,

The Mann ki Baat initiative started off as a one-way communication, but people have now adapted it quickly to provide ideas, make suggestions and share their views, either in writing or through a voice message recorder.
