Fuel protests

People have been seen walking with their luggage along Dublin’s M50 towards the airport as vehicles block roads during fuel protests in the Republic of Ireland. The army was called in on April 9 to help remove vehicles blocking roads. Travel in parts of the country has been affected for the third day in a row, with slow-moving convoys protesting against high fuel prices caused by the US and Israeli war against Iran.

Deterring Russian spies

Britain and Norway conducted a weekslong military operation to deter Russian spy submarines near undersea cables in the North Atlantic, the UK defence chief said on April 9, accusing Moscow of using the distraction of the Iran war to ramp up malign activity against Europe. A Royal Navy frigate, aircraft and hundreds of personnel were involved in tracking a Russian attack sub and two spy submarines operating north of the UK.

Midair baby

Aroutine passenger flight on April 6 from Jamaica landed at New York’s John F Kennedy international airport with one more person than it took off with after a woman gave birth in midair, potentially setting up a tricky situation over the newborn’s citizenship. If either parent is already a US citizen, the baby will also be one. If not, US citizenship laws published by the federal state department come into play.
