NEW DELHI: The Gujarat Government is planning to expand Ahmedabad’s Science City. Gujarat Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia met with the Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on August 12 in New Delhi and discussed the proposal, along with plans to strengthen the state’s science, innovation and technology ecosystem. During the meeting on Thursday, Modhwadia sought guidance on new projects and advanced facilities at Science City and on ways to provide richer scienti¿c experience for young people.
People familiar with the meeting said the interaction focused on developing Science City further as part of a broader vision to establish Gujarat as a world-class hub for science, innovation and technology. Gujarat has been making eႇorts to expand its technology-oriented infrastructure, including work in areas such as arti¿cial intelligence, semiconductors, cybersecurity and smart infrastructure.
The meeting with Shah comes days after Modhwadia met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on August 4.
The Science City discussions come at a time when Gujarat is expanding its focus on emerging technologies.
At the Viksit Gujarat Summit 2026, Modhwadia participated in discussions covering arti¿cial intelligence, semiconductors, cybersecurity and smart infrastructure, with the state positioning technology and innovation as key areas of its development strategy
