NEW DELHI: It was an emotional filled celebration of courage and sporting excellence when Blitz India Group Editor- in Chief and Chairman Deepak Dwivedi felicitated the Indian Mixed Disability Cricket Team for its historic victory at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in England.
The ceremony held at the Blitz India Meida office in Noida recognised a team which has scripted one of the greatest chapters in Indian disability sport by defeating England at Lords, the “Mecca of Cricket.”
The Indians played well throughout the series and defeated England by 79 runs in the final at Lord’s. Their famous celebration on the Lord’s balcony echoed Sourav Ganguly’s iconic 2002 NatWest Trophy celebration, symbolising a new moment of pride for Indian cricket.
At the function, Deepak Dwivedi congratulated the players for proving that determination and resilience are greater than physical limitations. He said the team’s achievement had inspired millions and highlighted the need for disability sports to receive the same recognition and support as mainstream sports.
Speaking on the occasion, Deepak Dwivedi said that, “the trials and tribulations faced by the mixed disability team and their never say die spirit would go a long way in inspiring the youth of the country.”
He further added, “My heart goes out to all these cricketers who showed the fortitude and mental strength to defeat the Englishmen at the Mecca of cricket is a defining moment for these brave cricketers.”
The event brought together sports administrators, journalists, supporters and well-wishers, who applauded the players for their grit and perseverance. Members of the victorious squad shared their experiences of playing at Lord’s and spoke about the challenges they overcame to reach the pinnacle of disability cricket.
The honour by Blitz India was seen as a tribute not only to a remarkable sporting victory but also to the growing movement for inclusivity in Indian sport. The team’s success has drawn widespread appreciation across the country, with leaders and sports personalities hailing it as a landmark achievement for Indian disability cricket.
