Diplomacy : Foreign Ministers to Steer the Agreements
India and Uzbekistan have agreed to set up a mechanism led by the two Foreign Ministers to give high-level coordination and oversight to every agreement and arrangement the two countries have reached, and to see that priority projects are realised on time. The Joint Statement of 30 August 2026 places the machinery of follow-up, rather than the signing, at the centre of the relationship.
United Nations : Tashkent Backs India’s Council Seat
Uzbekistan has reaffirmed its support for India’s candidature for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council. Both sides called for comprehensive reform of the United Nations so that the Council reflects present-day realities and becomes more representative and effective, and agreed to work together for the common interests of the Global South.
Trade : Trade Study Done, Ministries Told to Move
The Joint Feasibility Study on an Uzbekistan–India Preferential Trade Agreement has been concluded, and the two leaders have directed the relevant ministries to explore the next steps on a time-bound basis. The two sides have set themselves a bilateral trade target of US$5 billion a year by 2030, announced by the Prime Minister at Tashkent on 30 August 2026.
Commerce : A Working Group for the Barriers
A Joint Working Group is to be created to take up non-tariff issues and investment barriers in the sectors that carry the bulk of the two-way trade. Both sides also agreed to promote dialogue among regulators and to explore mutual recognition arrangements, the practical route by which an Indian certificate becomes acceptable in an Uzbek market and the reverse.
Multilateral : Two Indian-Led Alliances Draw Interest
Uzbekistan has conveyed its interest in joining the International Big Cat Alliance and the International Solar Alliance, and India has said it is ready to pursue the consultations and processes needed for accession. Both platforms were launched from New Delhi, and each addition widens the membership India can carry into climate and conservation negotiations.
Defence : Dustlik Was Held in Namangan
The two leaders recorded satisfaction with the Joint Working Group on Military Cooperation, within which new avenues in the defence industrial domain are being explored, and welcomed the conduct of the India–Uzbekistan joint military exercise “Dustlik”, the most recent edition of which was held in the Namangan region of Uzbekistan in April 2026.
