Investment Draws Level With Consumption
In the April–June quarter of 2026-27, household spending and fixed investment each added 3.95 percentage points to real GDP growth — the same contribution, to two decimal places. Blitz has computed both from the expenditure statement of the National Statistics Office press note of 31 August 2026. For most of the past decade the consumer carried the quarter alone.
Prices : Imports Fell In Volume, Rose In Price
India’s imports of goods and services fell 1.1 per cent in real terms in the quarter, yet rose 30.9 per cent at current prices. The gap is entirely price: the implicit import deflator, which Blitz derived from the two statements, rose 32.3 per cent. The country bought slightly less and paid a great deal more for it.
Services : Two-Thirds Of Growth Came From Services
The tertiary sector grew 10.0 per cent and contributed 5.45 of the 8.23 percentage points of real gross value added growth — a Blitz computation from the sectoral statement. Within it, financial, real estate, IT and professional services grew 12.1 per cent. Services are now 55.42 per cent of gross value added.
Mining : Mining Shrank While Its Value Rose
Mining and quarrying contracted 2.4 per cent in volume terms but expanded 22.3 per cent in rupees, which puts the sector’s implicit price rise at 25.3 per cent by the desk’s calculation. The press note’s own annexure gives the producer price index for crude petroleum and natural gas as 58.0 per cent higher than a year earlier.
