NEW DELHI: US President Joe Biden is set to travel to India in September for the G20 Leaders Summit, according to US administration. The US Government has declared that 2023 will be a “big year” for India-US relationship.
Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Donald Lu, said, “This is gonna be a big year. Of course, India is hosting the G20. This year, the United States is hosting APEC. Japan is hosting the G7. We have lots of our QUAD members who are taking on leadership roles. And it provides opportunities for all of us to bring our countries closer together.”
India a force for good
Lu praised India’s leadership at the G20, saying it increases its ability to act as a force for good in the world. “We are really thankful for the tremendous work India has done by hosting the G20 Foreign Ministerial meeting last month (March), and we look forward to actively participating in the many future G20 meetings coming up this year, including the New Delhi Leaders Summit in September,” he added.
PM Modi and President Biden are expected to meet at least five times this year, with four of these meetings taking place between May and June. The meetings will include one on the sidelines of the G7 Leaders Summit in Hiroshima, a meeting in Papua New Guinea, the Quad Leaders Summit, and the upcoming G20 Summit in New Delhi in September.
