NEW DELHI: During his visit to India, Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese addressed the concerns of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the promise that those behind vandalism of Hindu temples in his country would have to face the “full force” of the law.

Drawing attention that the Indian diaspora is now the second largest immigrant community in Australia, PM Modi pointed out how it is making a significant contribution to the society and economy of Australia.

“It is a matter of regret that attacks on temples have been regularly reported in Australia over the past few weeks. It is natural that such news worries the people in India, and disturbs our mind. I have shared these feelings and concerns of ours with Prime Minister Albanese. And he has assured me that the safety of the Indian community is a special priority for him,” shared PM Modi in a statement.

Albanese told reporters that he has assured Modi, “This has no place in Australia. And we will take every action through our police and also our security agencies to make sure that anyone responsible for this faces the full force of the law.”

Earlier this month, Shree Laxmi Narayan Temple in Brisbane was vandalised with anti-Hindu graffiti on walls. In January, three different temples were similarly vandalised across Australia.

According to reports, the acts were allegedly carried out by Khalistani extremists. Top lawmakers and diplomats in Australia condemned the hate-attacks and assured their support and solidarity with the Hindu community of Australia
