NEW DELHI: Under the self-reliant India campaign, the Defense Ministry has signed two deals with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and one with New Space India Limited (NSIL) for the production of defense materials. The three deals are worth about Rs 5,400 crore.
The first deal with BEL Ghaziabad is for procurement of Automated Air Defense Control and Reporting System. Named project Akashteer, these equipment will be purchased for the Army for Rs 1,982 crore. The second deal with BEL Hyderabad is for procurement of Sarang Electronic Support Measure (ESM) systems along with the associated Engineering Support Package at an overall cost of Rs 412 crore for the Indian Navy. The third agreement has been reached with NSIL to prepare the modern communication satellite GSAT 7B worth Rs 2,963 crore which will provide communication facilities to the Indian Army. NSIL is a government organisation working under the Department of Space.
