NEW DELHI: Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna created history as he became the oldest Grand Slam winner after teaming up with his Australian partner Matthew Ebden to defeat the Italian pair of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the finals of the Australian Open 2024.
Bopanna and Ebden defeated the Italian duo 7-6, 7-5 in a tough two hour match at the iconic Rod Laver Arena. Bopanna in particular was brilliant as his trademark big serves and cross court volleys proved too much for the Italian duo.
This is Rohan Bopanna’s second Grand Slam title after the 2017 French Open win with his Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski in mixed doubles.
Bopanna, who won his Grand Slam in men’s doubles was thrilled. “I don’t have the words to express my happiness at winning my maiden men’s Grand Slam,” he said,
