MUMBAI: Britannia Industries has set a target of increasing its women workforce to 50 per cent by 2024. The company has 41 per cent women employees at present.
The breakup comprises 15 company-owned manufacturing plants and 35 contract and franchisee units across India having a workforce of over one lakh people. Specifically, the company has around 1400 workers in its Madurai unit, of which 65 per cent are women.
Head of Manufacturing, Owned Factories, Indranil Gupta says, “They are more hygienic, and more suitable for these types of jobs– It is an important requirement in food-making facilities.” He adds that they were more disciplined compared to male workers.
The company has witnessed the benefits of diversity, like increased efficiency and productivity, while it has also helped reduce attrition.
