NEW DELHI: Pravasi Odia Vikash Samiti (POVS), the largest Odia diaspora organisation, celebrated Odia New Year and Maha Vishuva Sankranti with fun and enthusiasm at Viswa Yuvak Kendra here on April 14.
Rajya Sabha MP Rakesh Sinha, who was the Chief Guest at the event, stressed on the need for “positive mindset” to accept “positive news”. He said the presentday debates were nothing but a fierce attack on one another. Sinha also said that one should not be a slave of technology but use the social media for the growth of the nation.
Presiding over the event – which had Blitz India as the media partner– Surya Narayan Misra, President of POVS, appealed for the preservation of India’s civilisation, literature, language, culture and heritage.
Positive news impact The event also witnessed a lively discussion on the ‘Impact of positive news in nation’s growth and development’. Moderating the session, Prof Satya Bhusan Dash of IIM Lucknow stressed on the role of positive news in taking the nation forward. He said the media should shoulder the responsibility for disseminating correct news.
Sandeepp Saxena, CEO of Blitz India, and Ajit Thakkar, President of the Public Relations Society of India, also shared their views on the impact of positive news on the growth and development of the nation.
Stating that India’s growth rate is at an all-time high, Jayantha Ranganathan, senior director of IIFL Securities, spoke about the economic opportunities for the country in the ensuing centenary. POVS general secretary Bijaya Nabami proposed a Vote of Thanks.
A large number of people from Odia diaspora attended the event, which culminated with a cultural extravaganza that featured many eminent artists, including a painting by IIM Lucknow student Madhurima on Pana Sankranti.
