The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointments of new chiefs for the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) Sadanand Vasant Date, an Indian Police Services (IPS) officer of the Maharashtra cadre from 1990 batch, has been appointed as the DG, NIA. Another 1990 batch IPS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, Rajeev Kumar Sharma, has been handed the responsibility to supervise the functioning of the BPRD as its Director General.
Piyush Anand, IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre from the 1991 batch and presently working as Special DG of CISF, has been designated as Director General of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The tenure of the three newly-appointed Director Generals will come into effect on 31 March 2024.
However, Sadanand Vasant Date’s tenure is scheduled to conclude at the end of 2026, while Rajeev Kumar Sharma will head the BPRD till 30 June 2026.
