Dubai: Dubai Food Tech Valley, a project aimed at tripling UAE’s food production and positioning it as a global hub for the industry, will host a ‘GigaFarm’ to recycle 50,000t of food waste.
The GigaFarm will be hosted in a 900,000 square feet space with an aim to recycle food waste as well as to promote innovative farming techniques. There are plans to grow 2 billion plants each year. The construction on the project will start mid-2024.
The initiative is part of a new deal with ReFarm, launched by SSK Enterprise and Christof Global Impact. The promoters of the project have chosen chose vertical farming technology developed by infrastructure supplier Intelligent Growth Solutions (IGS) for the GigaFarm.
“The decision of ReFarm to launch a facility in Dubai’s Food Tech Valley is a significant step forwards for the development of a technologically advanced, low-carbon agricultural sector,” Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, informed the media on the occasion.
The projects aims to make farming autonomous, self-sufficient and sustainable in line with the goal to use innovative techniques to meet our food needs.
