NEW DELHI: The United Arab Emirates celebrated its 54th National Day as Eid Al Etihad on December 2, marking the historic unification of the emirates in 1971 under the theme “Spirit of the Union.” The day commemorates the formation of the federation by Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, with Ras Al Khaimah joining in February 1972 to complete the seven-emirate union.
Festivities took place across the country, with the official ceremony in Al Ain live-streamed to designated viewing zones in all Emirates. Celebrations included concerts, heritage exhibitions and fireworks at major landmarks, while cultural events at Al Shindagha Museum and Hatta Heritage Village highlighted traditional emirati customs alongside contemporary achievements. On the eve of the celebrations, the Burj Khalifa was illuminated in the national colours, adding to the atmosphere across Dubai’s landmarks.
In the lead-up to the celebrations, the organising committee released the official Eid Al Etihad song for the 54th National Day. Titled “We Take Pride in You, Our Homeland,” the anthem reflects national pride, unity between the people and their leadership, and the core values of peace, tolerance and harmony that have shaped the UAE’s development.
