MUMBAI: The state Government has decided to allow implementation of New Pension Scheme (NPS) for its employees in Maharashtra, with effect from November 1, 2005.
The decision was taken during a meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, in which it was decided to extend the NPS to state Government officials who had opted for the old pension scheme. Under the new system, the employees are given a one-time option to switch to the Maharashtra Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 1982, Maharashtra Civil Services Pay Matrix, 1984, and subsequent pay scales.
This transition is a part of the ongoing process, and those who had chosen the old pension scheme are now eligible to opt for the NPS. The implementation of the new pay scale will release employees from their existing obligations who were bound by the terms of the old pension scheme during their tenure.
State Government employees who had availed the benefits of the old pension scheme, and are now eligible for the new pay scale, will receive the applicable benefits according to the guidelines issued by the state Government.
