Speaking to the Indian community in Nigeria after attending the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Uganda, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar conveyed a message to the world, highlighting India’s pride in its heritage.
On January 21, during his address at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Jaishankar asserted that India takes pride in its rich traditions, culture, and history, emphasising that few civilisations have endured as modern nations, and India is among them.
Jaishankar pointed out the ongoing developmental activities in India, expressing the prevailing sense that the country is in a phase of constructive growth with a noticeable influx of investments.
Discussing the Indo-Nigerian relationship, he mentioned the substantial business ties amounting to $12- 15 billion and extended an invitation for Nigerian investors to explore opportunities in India.
The EAM highlighted India’s expanding capabilities, citing its transformation into a major producer of medical devices in addition to its established prowess in pharmaceuticals. He underscored the potential for collaboration in various sectors, pointing to the robust growth in India’s capabilities.
Jaishankar co-chaired the sixth India-Nigeria Joint Commission Meeting. He stressed the importance of promoting rebalancing and multipolarity to restore the world to its natural diversity.
