MUMBAI: The Indian Tricolour and saffron flag would be unfurled simultaneously at 350 forts in Maharashtra on the 75th Republic Day, i.e., January 26, 2024, to mark 350 years of coronation of legendary Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. A lot of planning is being done for the never-seenbefore initiative.
The project has been initiated by Akhil Maharashtra Giryarohan Mahasangh (AMGM), the apex body of mountaineers in the state. Shivaji Maharaj (February 19, 1630 – April 3, 1680) was coronated at the Raigad Fort on June 6, 1674, and it was from here that he laid the foundation of ‘Hindavi Swarajya’ or self-rule by Hindus. The coronation of Shivaji Maharaj is an important landmark in the history of the Indian sub-continent.
Forts have been identified in Raigad, Rajgad, Sinhagad, Purandar, Shiver, Torna, Vishalgad, Pratapgad, Lohagad, Vispur, Janjira, Vijaydurg and Sindhudurg. Out of 350 forts, around 200 are directly associated with the life and times of Shivaji Maharaj.
The initiative was finalised at the annual general meeting of AMGM. All the district bodies of AMGM, mountaineering clubs, and Shivpremi will participate in the initiative. Forts will be divided into zones and zonal representatives will lead the initiative in their respective zones. AMGM is known for inculcating a culture of adventure by integrating the rich history of India.
