Hundreds of enthusiastic youngsters lined the picturesque boulevard road on the banks of Dal Lake as Srinagar hosted the first-ever Formula 4 car racing event on March 17.
The authorities had made elaborate arrangements for the event, which enthralled motorsport fans as they witnessed stunts performed by professional Formula 4 drivers. Sleek racing cars roared along a 1.7- km track from Lalit Ghat on the banks of Dal Lake to Nehru Park in the city.
The event, the first-of-its-kind in the Kashmir Valley, was organised by the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India, an affiliate of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the event would further showcase the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir. “This is very heartening to see. It will help further showcase the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir. India offers great opportunities for motorsports to thrive, and Srinagar is among the top places where it can happen!” he said. Earlier on March 15, while reviewing arrangements for the thrilling event, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, said the show will be a major attraction for youth and will instill passion among them for Formula 4 sport.
Terming it as one of the major achievements, the DC said the occasion will open the spectrum of options for sports lovers of Kashmir and will be the beginning of a new career option for enthusiasts of the valley. This “adrenaline-rushing” car race will be very exciting and enthralling for people and shows like this will also leverage adventure tourism of Kashmir, he said.
F1..2..3..4
Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3 and Formula 4 are all exhilarating motorsports that represent various racing stages and styles.
Formula 1 is the highest level of Formula racing and, in terms of technology, driver skill, and overall popularity, it is the pinnacle of the sport. The top racers and most famous teams in the business are drawn to this series, which features competition in wellknown places all over the globe. Unofficially serving as the ‘feeder series’ for Formula 1, Formula 2 gives aspiring drivers a stage on which to display their abilities. Because each vehicle is similar in F2, skill serves as e primary differential. Also, F2 is far more affordable than F1.
With cars that aren’t as powerful as those in F1 or F2, Formula 3 is seen as the entry step for aspiring F1 drivers. Yet, F3 vehicles are capable of putting out impressive performance. These cars are made to put the emphasis on driving skill rather than automotive technology.
Formula 4 is the beginning of the path to professional racing. For young drivers who are just making the switch from karting to open-wheel racing, Formula 4 serves as a stepping stone. Because of their inexpensive cost, F4 vehicles make it possible for drivers with modest budgets to compete in the racing industry.
