MUMBAI: The split personality of Maharashtra’s weather is showing this summer with some regions getting unseasonal rain and others facing extreme heat. Usually prone to droughts, parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada are this time facing unseasonal rain accompanied by gusty winds, thunder and hailstorm.
So losses in agriculture are, for a change, due to untimely rain rather than lack of it. Crops such as wheat, sugarcane, vegetables and fruits (mangoes, grapes and lemons) have reportedly suffered extensive damage in both the regions.
As per the data provided by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Nagpur, both Nagpur and Wardha reported 7 mm and 3 mm rainfall, respectively last week.
For next few days too, there is a warning about rainfall with thunder and hailstorm for both Vidarbha and Marathwada. The Central Maharashtra, on the other hand, has recorded above-normal temperature.
