NEW DELHI: Aiming for the grand success of the G20 Summit in 2023, Union Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar urged Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokespersons, panelists and media coordinators to ensure that the country’s “rich potential and vibrant culture” is highlighted during its yearlong presidency.

He appealed to the partymen to make sure that the local flavour of the venues dominate and is on full display during the meetings throughout the year.
Jaishankar gave a presentation regarding the preparations for G20 at the BJP headquarters, in New Delhi on December 26. Union Minister of State for Electronics and Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar was also present on the occasion. Explaining the significance of the G20, Jaishankar appraised those present about India’s G20 broad themes like digitalisation, green development, empowerment of women, youngsters and farmers.
Both Jaishankar and Chandraskhar unfolded the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on how the party will play its role and participate in preparations for the G20 events. They also asked the participants to mobilise various civil society groups associated with the BJP to take initiatives regarding the preparations for G20.
According to sources present at the meeting, both the ministers highlighted the need for a cohesive effort by all party members to make the presidency a massive success.

“There will be cultural events and regional festivals. During these events, indigenous technology will be showcased. Further, regional snacks will be served and ODOP (One District One Product) gifts will be presented to guests during the G20 events. In these programmes and events, States will be represented. Efforts are to be made to ensure civil society engagement and public participation,” said sources. Jaishankar said he wanted to make the G20 presidency a “national celebration (including the regions of India).”
India officially assumed the presidency of the G20 on December 1, 2022 and has planned to host more than 200 G20-related events in more than 50 cities across the country. Conferences on cyber security, women’s empowerment, sustainable society, etc. have already been held. Earlier, on December 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed BJP leaders and appealed to them to ensure that India’s G20 presidency be made an inclusive event, as it is an opportunity to showcase the country’s culture and diversity.
In his address to the party’s top leadership, state unit presidents and organisation secretaries, PM Modi had urged them to focus on making the yearlong G20 presidency a glorious one for the country. “The Prime Minister asked party leaders to make every Indian feel proud of this achievement and make them also a participant of this historic occasion,” said Raman Singh, former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, who was present during the meeting.
To make India’s G20 presidency a grand success, the Prime Minister is leaving no stone unturned. In December last year, he had met Governors, L-Gs and CMs to discuss various aspects related to the G20 events. He had emphasised the importance of teamwork, and sought the cooperation of the states/UTs in the organiation of various G20 events.
