NEW DELHI: Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, led Oman’s delegation at the G20 Summit, which saw attendance of leaders from around the world.
Addressing the leaders during the Summit’s inauguration, Sayyid Asaad hailed the theme of India’s G20 presidency: “One Earth, One Family, One Future”. He appealed for collective action, emphasising not only the imperative of safeguarding the planet but also the advancement and well-being of all of humanity.
The Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan emphasised that, “The Sultanate of Oman holds steadfast to the principles of cooperation and shared responsibility, dedicating itself to the pursuit of public welfare.”

Multifaceted initiatives
During his speech Sayyid Asaad highlighted that this unwavering commitment extended to the international community’s visions and multifaceted initiatives aimed at achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement.
In a fitting tribute to India, Sayyid Asaad expressed his gratitude. “We cannot fail to express our thanks and appreciation to the friendly Republic of India for its efforts to prepare for this Summit and for its warm reception and generous hospitality,” he said.
He commended India for setting a remarkable precedent at the 18th G20 Summit, placing sustainable development and equitable economic growth at the forefront of discussions — a notable departure from previous agendas.
An array of topics
The Summit’s agenda extended its purview to a diverse array of topics, spanning from assistance to developing nations, debt restructuring, cryptocurrency regulation, and geopolitical tensions.
A statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry further underscored the significance of Oman’s participation in the G20 process. “The Sultanate of Oman’s presence at this global gathering is a testament to the deep-rooted relations shared with the Republic of India, signifying Oman’s active role at both regional and international levels.”.
