COCHIN: Continuing with his unique feats, an employee of the Kerala government has climbed the world’s highest volcano in Chile now. Kerala government employee Shaikh Hassan Khan has conquered Ojos del Salado, the world’s highest volcano which is more than 22,600 feet high.
Ojos del Salado, which is also the highest peak in Chile, was scaled by the 36-year-old Khan from Pathanamthitta recently. This is the seventhhighest peak climbed by Khan. Khan, son of Pandalam native MA Ali Ahammad Khan and J Shahida, is employed as an assistant section officer at the finance department in Kerala secretariat.
“By summitting the world’s highest volcano, he wanted to spread the message of climate change in a different way,” Khan said, talking to an Indian news agency after his feat.
“I wrote the slogan Climate Change is Real on my chest and showcased it at the top of Ojos del Salado”, he said, talking to the media from Chile.
Before conquering the world’s highest volcano, he also summited the highest peak of South America, Mount Aconcagua, earlier this month which makes it a double victory for him in the first of the year.
Prior to this feat, Khan scaled Mount Vinson, the highest peak in Antarctica, in December 2023. He has climbed four other highest peaks, Mount Everest in Asia, Mount Denali in North America, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mount Elbrus in Europe.
