KERALA State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is all set to launch a ‘Bike Express’ project to transport bikes and scooters to longer distances.
Presently, the trains and private freight companies are the only way a person could transport their vehicles.
Many people, however, complain about the high prices demanded by private parties and the risk involved in carrying vehicles via trains. KSRTC hopes to provide similar services at a lower rate. The corporation is eyeing the routes not served by trains or private companies.
As per the reports, KSRTC will transport two-wheelers in special vans, and older-model buses. Earlier, KSRTC had logistics vans, and the new ones will reportedly be designed in a similar pattern.
The project will be launched after considering public feedback and opinion. Meanwhile, KSRTC’s courier service is running profitably. Although it received few takers in the beginning, it is currently in high demand. KSRTC earns an average of Rs 1.5 lakh per day from courier services at most depots. Authorities are hopeful that the two-wheeler project will also be similarly successful.
