MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai is all set to receive a bouquet of gifts in 2024 in the form of utility and development projects. These include various gamut of business and corporate facilities, connectivity, recreation, etc.

While Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), a passenger water terminal in Nerul, the Bamandongri Railway Station, roadways, metro, et al will enhance connectivity, the centre of excellence project ICP (BKC2) in Kharghar will become the future commercial, educational and residential hub.

Meanwhile, a golf course – with fivestar accommodations, a club house, and an academy – at Kharghar will add to recreational facilities. Navi Mumbai is situated adjacent to Mumbai in the Konkan division of Maharashtra. It is spread over two districts, Thane and Raigad, and is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) of Maharashtra developed 14 nodes (townships) which are divided into North and South. Seven nodes in the North are Airoli, Kopar Khairane, Vashi, Sanpada, Nerul and CBD Belapur.

In the South are Kharghar, Kamothe, Kalamboli, Pushpak, Panvel, Ulwe and Dronagiri.

Two municipal bodies have been established in this periphery – Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation in the North and Panvel Municipal Corporation in the South.

The international airport is slated to be one of the world’s largest greenfield airports implemented by CIDCO. It is the first urban multi-airport system in the country and is being developed by Adani Airport Holdings Ltd.

NMIA is aimed to handle over 60 million passengers and 1.5 million tonnes of cargo annually. It will help ease the traffic pressure on Mumbai airport.

The Nerul passenger water terminal is said to be ready for passenger transport operation by the Maharashtra Maritime Board. It will significantly reduce travel-time between Navi Mumbai-South Mumbai and between Navi Mumbai and the Konkan region.

Apart from these projects, several other goodies are expected to be coming this year to the residents of Navi Mumbai including a tunnel-road linking Turbhe to Parsik Hill, proposed by CIDCO, which will provide direct access to the proposed International Corporate Park in Kharghar.
