MAHARASHTRA is going to formulate a new aerospace and defence policy to boost defence manufacturing in the state with Pune playing a major role in this initiative.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced this while speaking at the inauguration of the Maharashtra MSME Defence Exposition which was held at International Exhibition Convention Centre, Moshi, Pune from February 24 to February 26.

The Deputy CM also highlighted Pune’s conducive ecosystem for defence manufacturing in recent years.

Participation of large number of MSMEs, private companies, Defence Research and Development Oraganisation (DRDO) laboratories and defence public sector units in the expo reflected India’s progress towards achieving ‘Atmanirbharta’ in defence and integration of armed forces’ requirements, R&D and defence production by public and private players.

Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari also visited the expo on the inaugural day and interacted with the exhibitors to make them aware of future requirements of IAF towards achieving selfreliance in line with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ goal of the Government of India.

The IAF demonstrated its indigenous capabilities at the expo through static display of new generation Advanced Light Helicopter MK-IV and Light Combat Helicopter in addition to Aakash and SAMAR missile systems.

The IAF stall showcased products developed by its internal agencies through collaboration with private industry partners. A publicity stall was set up at the venue to attract the youth to join the IAF.

Induction Publicity and Exhibition Vehicle was placed at the site to showcase near-real life depiction of the range of function and activities undertaken by IAF. This publicity drive benefitted participating students from various educational institutions who were curious to learn about various facets of IAF as well as various opportunities available in the IAF for a promising career.

They were also briefed about the benefits of joining Indian Air Force (IAF) as an officer as well as Agniveervayu (men and women).
