MUMBAI: With Delhiites reeling under pollution, could Mumbaikars be far behind? According to a latest survey by Local Circles, a social media community, there has been a sharp surge in pollutionrelated health problems of the city dwellers. As Mumbai’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has been deteriorating in the past few weeks, complaints from residents about problems like sore throat, cough and burning eyes, among others, have gone up.
Nearly 7,000 people across Mumbai responded to the survey, of which 67 per cent were men and 33 per cent women. To a question on the ailments being faced due to air pollution, 78 per cent respondents complained of sore throat and cough.
For most people in Mumbai, travelling to work or school / college takes considerable time, so there is no escaping air pollution. The survey asked respondents, “How are you and your family coping with the poor air quality in Mumbai?”
Out of 2,017 people who responded to this question, 25 pc indicated that they were using antipollution mask, 17 pc indicated that besides using mask, they had also increased consumption of immunity-boosting foods.
