NEW DELHI: In a recent report by the global matching and hiring platform, India’s manufacturing sector has demonstrated remarkable growth in job postings, registering an impressive 36% increase. These findings shed light on the robust demand for talent within the manufacturing industry, with production and manufacturing roles remaining amongst the most sought-after functional areas over the past year. Functional areas, essentially teams of employees with similar skill sets, have witnessed a surge in hiring activity.
However, beneath this encouraging growth lies an intriguing trend. While the manufacturing sector experiences a consistent uptick in hiring, there is a noticeable dip of 3% in job seeker interest for roles within this domain, resulting in a significant 40% talent mismatch.
Indeed, head of sales, Sashi Kumar, attributed this trend with a lack of motivation and awareness about upskilling. he said, “The growth in demand for manufacturing jobs is a positive sign for India’s economy. As the country strives to position itself as a global export leader, it is crucial to address the talent mismatch to ensure that the industry continues to grow.
Investment in upskilling will create a skilled talent pool that correctly understands technology to ensure higher efficiency without leading to an unnecessary loss of jobs. Advocacy for upskilling and reskilling programs can help bridge the gap between job seekers and employers, and the government’s efforts in promoting the manufacturing industry can provide a conducive environment for job creation.”
