INNOVATE UK has supported scientific development of meals designed specifically for breast cancer survivors with a near £500k grant. One-in-seven women in the UK will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, a diagnosis that often leads to a sense of ‘abandonment’ once treatment concludes, marking a challenging and emotional period.
Taking cognisance of this, Field Doctor and Perci Health have joined forces to devise a comprehensive food and care programme tailored to foster healthy eating habits posttreatment.
Diet plays a crucial role in breast cancer recurrence, and amidst the plethora of conflicting information online, survivors often grapple with uncertainty regarding dietary choices. Kelly McCabe, co-founder of Perci Health, emphasises the importance of a recovery-supportive diet, particularly in optimising overall health and well-being posttreatment.
Alex Brooks, co-founder of Field Doctor, echoes this sentiment, underlining their commitment to crafting a range of meals aimed at supporting cancer survivors. These science-led, dietitian-designed, chef-made frozen meals are meticulously formulated to deliver specific nutrient profiles essential for breast cancer survivors.
The programme, delivered weekly for convenience, offers ready-toheat-and-eat meals, accompanied by additional support and advice. The aim is not only to integrate the programme seamlessly into individuals’ routines but also to enhance specific health metrics.
