Anti-tank guided missile test successful

NEW DELHI: INDIA has successfully flight-tested the third-generation Fire & Forget Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile, or MPATGM, with top attack capability against a moving target.

The test was conducted at the KK Ranges in Ahilya Nagar, Maharashtra. The fire-and-forget missile, developed indigenously by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)’s sister laboratories, is equipped with state-of-the-art indigenous technologies, including an Imaging Infrared homing seeker, tandem warhead, all-electric control actuation system, fire control system, propulsion system and a high-performance sighting system.

The missile is capable of day and night combat operations and can effectively defeat modern main battle tanks. It can be launched from a tripod as well as a military vehicle launcher. The associated labs include Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Chandigarh, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune, and Instruments Research and Development Establishment, Dehradun. The Thermal Target System was developed by the Defence Laboratory, Jodhpur, to simulate the target tank.

The IIR seeker is well accomplished with day and night combat operation capability. The warhead is capable of defeating modern main Battle Tanks. Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited are the Development-Cum-Production Partners (DcPP) for the weapon System. The missile can be launched from a Tripod or a Military Vehicle Launcher, said the statement.
