PRIME Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Cabinet-approved National Mission on Natural Farming scheme marks a transformative shift in Indian agriculture.
In a post on X, PM Modi said on November 26, “The National Mission on Natural Farming, which has been approved by the Cabinet, marks a transformative shift in Indian agriculture. Through this effort, we are nurturing soil health, protecting biodiversity, and securing our agricultural future. It reaffirms our commitment to sustainable farming and prosperity for farmers.”
On November 25, the Union Cabinet approved the launch of the National Mission on Natural Farming as a standalone Centrally- sponsored scheme under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. The scheme has a total outlay of Rs 2,481 crore, of which the Central Government’s share is Rs 1,584 crore, while the state’s share is Rs 897 crore, covering the period until the 15th Finance Commission (2025-26).
The mission aims to promote chemical-free farming practices, based on traditional knowledge and local agroecological principles, with an emphasis on diversified crop systems and livestock-integrated techniques. It is designed to help farmers reduce input costs, enhance soil health, and promote biodiversity, ultimately securing sustainable agricultural practices, according to the agriculture ministry. NMNF seeks to provide safe, nutritious food, improve climate resilience, and strengthen the agricultural practices that are vital for both farmers and consumers.
