NEW DELHI:The Bharatiya Janata Party appointed 45-year-old Nitin Nabin, a five-time MLA and Bihar Minister, as National Working President of the party, signalling a generational shift in the saffron party. He is youngest Working President in the party’s history and the first BJP leader from Bihar to be appointed to the post.
Congratulating Nabin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in a post on ‘X’, “Shri Nitin Nabin Ji has distinguished himself as a hard-working karyakarta (worker). He is a young and industrious leader with rich organisational experience and has an impressive record as MLA as well as minister in Bihar for multiple terms. He has diligently worked to fulfil people’s aspirations. He is known for his humble nature and grounded working style. I am confident that his energy and dedication will strengthen our Party in times to come. Congratulations to him on becoming the BJP National Working President.” Reacting to his appointment, Nabin expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the opportunity and the guidance provided by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to political observers, the BJP’s leadership structure reflects a conscious emphasis on succession planning and long-term organisational continuity. Over the past decade, the party has consistently projected leaders who are expected to remain politically active for years rather than relying solely on legacy figures nearing the twilight of their careers. This approach has been particularly noticed in the BJP’s handling of leadership transitions after electoral victories. Nabin represents the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna district and was holding the Road Construction portfolio in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar Government.
With nearly two decades of organisational experience, Nabin held several key roles within the party, including Bihar President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and the BJP’s election incharge for Chhattisgarh. On taking charge as the National Working President on December 15 in New Delhi, BJP President and Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, and former BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated him. Nabin received a grand welcome from the party’s Central leadership at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi. Nadda formally welcomed Nabin at the party headquarters and congratulated him through a message posted on his official X account.
Nadda expressed confidence that Nabin’s organisational skills will provide a new direction to the BJP’s journey of public service and nation-building. He added that Nabin will take the welfare policies of the BJP Government and the organisation’s ideas to the people. Expressing confidence in Nabin’s leadership, Shah said that under his leadership, the organisation will expand further. Shah added that Nabin will carry forward the policies of the Narendra Modi Government and the party’s ideology to the people.
