Ahmedabad, Feb 28 : In a landmark achievement for India’s renewable energy sector, Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has surpassed an operational capacity of 12,000 megawatts (MW), reinforcing its position as the country’s largest renewable energy company. The milestone was achieved with the commissioning of an additional 275 MW solar capacity at the world’s largest renewable energy project in Khavda, Gujarat.

With this feat, AGEL becomes the first renewable energy company in India to cross this threshold, setting a new benchmark in clean energy development. The company’s total operational portfolio now stands at 12,258.1 MW, comprising 8,347.5 MW of solar power, 1,651 MW of wind energy, and 2,259.6 MW from wind-solar hybrid projects.

Driving India’s Green Energy Future

This milestone is a significant step towards AGEL’s ambitious target of 50,000 MW of renewable energy by 2030. The 12,258.1 MW capacity is expected to power more than 6.2 million homes and reduce approximately 22.64 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually—equivalent to the carbon sequestration potential of over 1,078 million trees.

AGEL’s achievement represents the largest greenfield expansion in India’s renewable energy sector, contributing nearly 10% of the country’s installed utility-scale solar and wind capacity. Additionally, it accounts for over 13% of India’s total utility-scale solar installations.

World’s Largest Renewable Energy Project at Khavda

The company is currently developing the world’s largest renewable energy project at Khavda in Gujarat’s Kutch region, a massive 30,000 MW facility spread across 538 sq km—an area five times the size of Paris and nearly as large as Mumbai. Upon completion, it will become the largest power plant across all energy sources globally.

So far, AGEL has commissioned 2,824.1 MW of renewable energy at Khavda, with rapid progress ensuring the timely realization of India’s ambitious goal of 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

A Boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’

This remarkable achievement is a testament to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’—a developed and self-reliant India. By accelerating the transition to clean energy, AGEL is not only strengthening India’s energy security but also positioning the country as a global leader in renewable energy.

The rapid progress at Khavda and other project sites is being driven by the engineering capabilities of Adani Infra, the manufacturing expertise of Adani New Industries Limited, and the operational excellence of Adani Infrastructure Management Services Ltd.

AGEL’s record-breaking growth highlights India’s commitment to sustainable development and a greener future, setting an inspiring precedent for the world. With continued innovation and large-scale investments in renewable energy, India is well on its way to becoming a global powerhouse in clean energy solutions, contributing significantly to a self-reliant and developed nation.
