NEW DELHI: The BJP’s state working committees have started formulating strategies for the upcoming Assembly and next year’s Lok Sabha elections.
Senior leaders of the party are of the view that a spate of meetings are primarily meant to evaluate the preparations for the upcoming monthlong celebrations of nine years of the Modi Government, beginning May 30. But, with Assembly polls due in some states, the focus has shifted to state elections, especially after the party’s debacle in Karnataka.
Recently, the Madhya Pradesh State BJP Working Committee held a meeting which was attended by all top leaders of the state, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He is said to have told workers that they should not be depressed after the party’s defeat in Karnataka.
Direct fight in MP
“Congress got JD(S) votes in Karnataka and that’s why it won,” Chouhan told party workers. There is no such third party in Madhya Pradesh and the fight is directly between BJP and Congress.
With an eye on the Assembly polls, the Chief Minister announced that students who top in Government higher secondary examinations would get e-scooties. He also promised to launch new schemes to attract voters before elections.
Meetings took place in Rajasthan and Bihar, the other two states crucial for BJP in the wake of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In Jaipur (Rajasthan), the BJP has decided to organise a protest against the State Government in July. After the Working Committee meeting, the BJP vowed to highlight corruption and infighting in the Congress in the run up to the polls.
To expose Congress
Arun Singh, the BJP’s General Secretary in charge of Rajasthan, was also present during the meeting. Singh was also in-charge of Karnataka. “Congress guarantee schemes were one of the reasons for the party’s victory in Karnataka and now onwards, the BJP will expose Congress on their unfulfilled promises,” Singh said.
“They promised loan waiver and unemployment allowance in Rajasthan, but haven’t been able to do that.” During the meeting in Bihar, the leaders plan to launch a contact drive as a part of celebration of nine years of the Modi Government.
